What follows is an excerpt from the Eiridia campaign setting. It describes the people of both Rekellia and Redami. Players looking to get more insight into how Rekellians and Redami act will find this useful. Also, it serves as a good primer on the people in and around Summerfort (and, by extension, Fortress Fairling).
Of Rekellians
Rekellians are very diverse in background. Because the country is so large, people of all colors, shapes, and sizes live there. The most common human race is fair-skinned, relatively tall (around 6′ on average), and of slight build. This race is called the Rekesians, after the Centerland Territory which they originated from. The second most common human race has amber-colored skin, dark hair, and dark eyes. This race, the Trondesian strain, is shorter than the Rekesian one and generally more temperamental. Together these two races are generally known as Centerlanders. The Rekesians and Trondesians together make up about half of all Rekellians; the other half is made up of many other types, ranging from Nardoran-Rekesian mixes to the tall, dark-skinned people of the southern regions. Racial prejudice is not a problem, at least not among humans. There is some prejudice towards the non-humans that live in Rekellia, particularly the catfolk.
The majority of Rekellians are farmers, with merchants a close second. Slavery is unheard of. The gap between commoners and aristocracy is not as wide as it is in Jur’gaan and Nardora, and the possibility of a class war is almost nonexistent.
Rekellian appearance varies with the race. Mixed breeds are common, at least among humans. Clothing is, however, not as diverse. The commoners usually wear what they can afford. Males wear coarse tunics with equally rough breeches, often with patches sewn into them. Tough leather boots and a wide belt complete the outfit. Females tend to wear long dresses made of more delicate materials, but they can’t afford anything decorative. The dresses are plain and white or beige in color.
The aristocratic and middle classes wear more varied clothing, usually depending on current trends and fashions. The only difference between middle and upper class clothing is the quality of the decorations – while a middle class woman might wear a nice gown with silver or copper jewelry, an upper class lady wears an elegant gown with gold or gem-studded jewelry.
Of Redamians
The people of Redami are an honest, prosperous, and diverse group. Only 63% of Redamians are human; the other 37% is made up of non-humans. In Redami all races are treated equally by law, but animalfolk experience a strong level of social prejudice against them. Other than that, if one were to walk up to a random Redamian in a street somewhere and greet them, chances are the Redamian would be more than happy to return the greeting and perhaps introduce himself. This is because of several things – one, the low crime rate; two, the lack of any real outside enemies; and three, the Redamians are a very open people. While there are a few nasty characters in Redami, the majority of people are at least polite.
There are three Castes in Redami. The First Caste is composed of the nobility, the Third of the poor, and the Second of everyone else. Most people are in the Second Caste, with a small number in the First and an even smaller number in the Third. Poverty, while not rare in Redami, is relatively uncommon compared to other countries.
The humans of Redami appear usually as crosses between Rekellians and Nardorans, tending to be taller and lighter in color than their northern cousins. Diversity is found throughout Redami, however, and humans of any description can be found if one looks hard enough. This is also true of non-humans, though half-wolves are nearly unheard of since the Black Hand left Redami.
Redami clothing depends upon the race and preference of the wearer. Because of Redami’s multicultural origins, there is no single style of clothing.
